Event
Hogarth, Handel and Coram at the Foundling Museum
This tour explores the ever changing and turbulent first half of the 18th century and the under-visited Foundling Museum will be our focus. Here we will pay tribute to Thomas Coram, the philanthropic old sea-dog who was the beating heart behind the Foundling Hospital. Designed for unwanted or orphaned children, the hospital was sponsored by the great satirist of Georgian every-day life William Hogarth, and the famous German composer George Frederic Handel. The museum now is a memorial to these men, to the 25,000 children they helped save and to the aggressive nature of 18th century London.
