Remembrance and Rebirth
This evening's program is dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
Its purpose is to create the experience of somber commemoration as well as the inspiration of a rebirth.
The Program.......
Ms. Poghosyan will perform works by the great masters: Bach, Beethoven, Schubert, Liszt, Komitas and Khachaturian.
She will opening with the serene Ave Maria and Bach's beloved A Minor Organ Prelude and Fugue, both transcribed for piano by Franz Liszt
The musical journey will continue on to works of great life-affirming power.
The heartwarming Campanella will connect us to the child within. While the prophetic Sposalizio, inspired by Raphael's painting of the wedding of Virgin Mary to Joseph, will connect us to the tremendous joy of a true lasting love.
The first half of the program concludes with the powerhouse Rhapsodie Espagnole. It promises to bring us to our feet, as it were, with the fiery and empowering Spanish dance rhythms, reminding us of the sheer joy of life and inspiring us to live each day with the appreciation of this joy.
The second half of the program will begin with the beloved Moonlight Sonata, which needs no introduction. The concept of rebirth cannot be complete without the profound presence of Beethoven, whose entire life story is one powerful encouragement to "grab fate by its throat" and in spite of all challenges to always sing an Ode to Joy.
The program concludes with a selection of Armenian masterpieces: small gem Unabi - by Komitas Vardapet. It shall be followed by the piano transcription of the beautiful "Adagio" from Spartacus and the finale shall be from the tour-de-force Piano Sonata, both by Aram Khachaturian.
