Mirror Images has been in conception for quite some time. After being part of a panel discussion on TVO's The Agenda With Steve Paikin, event creator and host Bee Quammie started thinking critically about the presence of women in media. Looking at the topic through the lens of being a Black woman herself, Bee realized that a deeper discussion around diversity and representation in Canada's media industry was needed.
Featuring a creative roundtable with some of the most respected names in media, and providing a networking opportunity for attendees, Mirror Images seeks to open the floor to a necessary conversation.
Panelists include:
Tatiana King: Radio Personality, G 98.7FM's "The African Groove Show" Arisa Cox: Freelance Journalist & Host of Big Brother Canada Kim Johnson: Producer, CityNews Nneka Elliott: Reporter/Anchor/Co-host, CP24 Breakfast Ingrie Williams: Stylist & Editor of HOLR Magazine Namugenyi Kiwanuka: Columnist & Videographer
Bee aims for attendees to leave with a greater ability to navigate issues around diversity, representation, sexism and racism in the media industry; with the ability to be challenged in their existing thought processes regarding Canadian media; with motivation and inspiration from the panelists; and with the opportunity to meet with panelists and other attendees, creating positive connections.
