NAGATA SHACHU: KAISO
16th Anniversary Concert

October 18, 2014 / Fleck Dance Theatre (Harbourfront Centre)

Nagata Shachu proudly presents a dramatic and breathtaking new production KAISO.  Looking back over the ensemble's sixteen year history, KAISO which means retrospect, will feature rearranged favourites as well as new works for Japanese drums, percussion, bamboo flutes and shamisen.  This concert will also celebrate the release of Nagata Shachu's third live DVD recorded from last year's 15th Anniversary Concert.

NAGATA SHACHU & THE TORONTO TABLA ENSEMBLE
April 11, 2015 / Brigantine Room (Harbourfront Centre)

The powerful and evocative rhythms of Japan and India converge in this highly anticipated collaboration between two pillars of the Toronto world music scene.  The Juno nominated Toronto Tabla Ensemble, founded in 1991 by Artistic Director and Tabla Master, Ritesh Das, has toured Canada six times as well as Australia and India.  They will join Nagata Shachu in an evening of thrilling rhythms and joyous percussion!

NAGATA SHACHU & CHIKIRI
June 27, 2015 / Kobayashi Hall at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre

CHIKIRI is the Japanese taiko drumming and music family trio, led by Ringtaro Tateishi.  As a former performer and artistic director of Japan's renowned ONDEKOZA for ten years, he performed over a thousand concerts in twenty-six countries. Ringtaro later moved to the US and performed at EPCOT Centre for seven years. He is currently the co-founder of The School of TAIKO in Seattle with his partner, taiko and shamisen player, Asako Tateishi. This collaboration promises to be an unforgettable evening of powerful taiko drumming and music capturing the spirit and essence of Japan.
