Balinese Dance Workshop
Gamelan Dharma Swara, one of North America's leading Balinese performance groups, invites you you to an introductory workshop on Balinese dance.
Taught by Shoko Yamamuro, this participatory workshop:
- instructs participants in the basic principles, postures, and movements of Balinese dance
- introduces male and female dance styles
- includes a question-answer session on Balinese dance's cultural context
No previous formal training in dance is required - all levels of experience are welcome.
Shoko Yamamuro has been performing Balinese dance for over twenty years and is renowned as a leading Balinese dancer and instructor in North America and Japan. She has performed widely in Indonesia, Japan, and North America, both as a solo dancer and as dancer-in-residence with such ensembles as Gamelan Gita Asmara (Vancouver), Gamelan Dharma Swara (New York), and Gamelan Galak Tika (Boston).
