Another election season is upon us. You've heard the ads and seen the candidates.
Elections provide the American public the opportunity to participate in the democratic process, and they impact the ways in which people live, work and play. But elections at all levels of government go beyond the hot button issues. As professional planners, public administrators, and policy experts, our fields are especially sensitive to changes in leadership, vision and agendas determined by the political process. Elections can significantly impact the governmental, community, and even non-profit environment in which we operate, as well as the tools which we use to enact change and the projects and programs that we manage.
This timely and exciting panel will examine the potential implications of the current 2014-2015 election cycle for planners, public administrators, and policy experts, with a particular focus on the areas of transportation, housing, and economic development. Moderated by UIC College of Urban Planning and Public Policy Dean Michael Pagano, PhD, please join us for an informative discussion featuring three experts in this area:
Jacky Grimshaw, Vice President of Policy, Center for Neighborhood Technology
Gordon Smith, Director of Governmental Affairs, Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning
Andrea Traudt, Executive Director, Illinois Housing Council
Questions will be taken from the audience. Light refreshments will be served, and there will be terrific opportunities for networking.
