This event will be part of Initiative: Eau's "Running Water" series. The proceeds will benefit non-profits: Initiative Eau, and The BARKA Foundation, whose water, sanitation, and hygiene projects in Burkina Faso, one of the poorest countries in the world, help revitalize communities. BARKA is working closely with indigenous villages to design a replicable "micro-model" which can permanently break the cycle of poverty and foster social and economic empowerment. The greatest need is water. It all starts there. SEAC (Student Environmental Action Committee) is a John Bapst Memorial High School social justice and environmental group. SEAC completes a number of projects on a yearly basis including community street clean-ups, coat and coin drives, and city beautification initiatives, its most recent undertaking, the Peace, Water, and Wisdom Race, is surely its most wide-reaching project. SEAC members and other students felt invigorated to help the small West-African country of Burkina Faso. Because of the relatedness of the philosophies of Initiative: Eau and SEAC, a natural connection was forged between the two organizations, one that would result in this project to help end the water crisis that is affecting millions of people. Through the dedication of individuals on both sides of the connection, this event has been made successful venture that works to spread a necessary natural resource to a massive deserving population.
