On September 18, 2014, the Thai Community Development Center will be celebrating its 20th anniversary by holding a "Rise of the Thai Americans" gala, paying tribute to the accomplishments of Thai Americans in this country and their important and significant contributions to our economy, political landscape, and social and cultural fabric.
The gala will also celebrate the founding of the Thai Community Development Center, the only Thai-American organization in the nation engaged in community development.
Thai CDC has accomplished a great deal in 20 years and continues to make an impact on the lives of individuals who utilize our services, helping them become independent and self-sufficient members of society.
We were founded in 1994 originally to address the emergency relief needs of individuals and families adversely affected by the 1992 LA Civil Unrest and the 1994 Northridge Earthquake. Since then, we have advanced the social and economic well-being of low and moderate income Thais and other ethnic communities in the greater Los Angeles area through a broad and comprehensive community development strategy including human rights advocacy, affordable housing, access to healthcare, promotion of small businesses, neighborhood empowerment, and social enterprises.
Yet, we operate with very limited resources to fill such overwhelming needs. In order to continue our work towards improving the lives of people in our community, we need your support at all levels. Your contribution will be tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
About 200 people will attend our event at the Belasco Theater and we hope to raise over $200,000 to fund our vital programs. Your contribution will support our vital and critical human services and community development projects.
