Our guest instructor for this month's academy installment is Hattie Hotpants. She will be teaching character development and improv basics. She has a BA in Theater and Performance Art from The Evergreen State College (2002), and has an extensive background in Theater, Musical Theater, Improv and Chinese Opera.
She is a regular on stage, and no matter what the style of performance, she's always working from the same toolkit. Take a peek inside her box as she shares her formidable education and experience in theater and Theatre with you!
Character Development: how to create a new character from scratch or more importantly, how do you define, clarify and enhance the character you already have. How do you grow and change your character as you grow and change? What's working and what isn't with your character? Where do you see your character in 5 years? 10? Learn some techniques and tools to step up your game and get deeper into your character!
Improv Basics will provide students with some quick education in the magical art of "bullshitting on the fly" or "just keep going". All jokes aside, some experience with Improv is important for any Emcee, host or performer to have. Any style or skill level can benefit from the basic exercises and concepts presented. Though our target audience for this workshop is Burlesque performers, the information and skills presented will apply to many styles of theatrical performance.
Please wear comfortable clothes you can move in and bring a notebook if notes are your thing.
