MAHOGANY URBAN POETRY SERIES 15TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Come on out and witness an explosion of poetry, comedy, and entertainment. Mahogany is turning 15 this year, and we want to make it an event to remember!!
When we started the Mahogany Urban Poetry Series, we had no idea that we are not only cultivating a venue,but we were cultivating a culture as well. 15 years. 15 years of bringing you the best open mic in town, with poets from all over the world gracing our stage to share their work. 15 years of poets being "born" and "reborn" on our stage. From Taalam Acey, to Jessica Care Moore, Rodrick Freeman,Ainsley Burrows, to Mike E. Winfield, Bt Kingsley, and E.Clark, we have been the meeting place, the gathering spot, the artistic "home" of the arts in Northern California. We are launching a campaign to raise funds for our 15th Anniversary. We want to bring some of our favorite poets and entertainers into town to celebrate with us. We will be having our celebration at the end of August, and we want to make it the most memorable event Sacramento has seen in years! We appreciate your support. 15 years. 780 weeks. Featured in various magazines,on KVIE, Sac Bee, One of Sacramento News and Review's BEST places to hear poetry,Sac Observer, 2004 3rd place West Coast Regionals, 30th National Slam Team Ranking 5 years in a row (out of all of the teams in the nation), Battle of the Bay Champions 4 years straightAll because of you.
We will have a limited amount of tickets available in advance for this show. Your ticket will also get you in to our afterparty,which is happening not too far from the venue. Doors open at 6:30pm for the show. Semi formal to formal attire.
