2014 Jazz On The Lawn by The Men of Christ Our Hope
Annual outdoor jazz concert produced as a fund-raising event for the ministries of Christ Our Hope Catholic Church. This year, we present a Jazz/Funk throwdown featuring a tribute to Leroy "Sugarfoot" Bonner of the Ohio Players. Derwin Daniels has pulled the band back together, including The PR Experience and Earl Fleming - all of them performing favorites and numbers from their upcoming jazz projects - followed by a Funk-filled tribute to their late friend and funk pioneer.
Also featured is jazz vocalist Anita Canada. Anita's soulful contralto brings passion and depth to every song she performs. Her influences range from Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, and Frank Sinatra to Billie Holliday, Nina Simone , and Bob Dylan. Her style and delivery has been compared to the late, great Phyllis Hyman. Originally hailing from Seattle, Washington. She and her quartet will put the "sultry" into your summer evening as they kick-start the groove that will last into the night.
The event features "lawn seating", and guests are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs, blankets, and coolers for their own food and beverages. There will also be food vendors at the event for those who choose to travel light. Other craft merchants will also be there for attendees to check out between sets.
The concert will once again be held on the grounds of Christ Our Hope, which is located in the Stone Mountain/Lithonia area at 1786 Wellborn Road, Lithonia, GA 30058
Come and enjoy a dancable jazz/funk groove on a sultry summer night - with event proceeds going directly back into supporting the spiritual, physical, and financial needs of the community. Please come out, support, and most of all, have a wonderful evening of fun and great music.
