The Hecubae
Bare Boned Theatre is proud to announce the world premiere of The Hecubae. Playwrights Rebekah Walendzak and Jeffrey Bouthiette have created a wholly new narrative uniting Euripides classic tragedy Hecuba with a modern day refugee camp. The production will debut on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at the West Stage of the Raven Theatre Complex (6157 North Clark Street).
Director Jeffrey Bouthiette and an ensemble of seven women explore the question, What remains after war? Their narrative weaves the setting and style of Euripides tale with stories of contemporary refugees to parallel and illustrate the plight of women prisoners of war across history. Utilizing improvisational techniques and dramaturgical research from current refugee situations, the playwrights have collaborated with the cast of The Hecubae to develop an original theatrical work.
This production stays true to Bare Boned Theatres mission to present work that transcends type and emphasizes non-traditional casting and staging. The all-female cast focuses the storys perspective on women dealing with wars effects on themselves and their families. The ensemble includes Bare Boned Theatre company members Beth Allin and Samantha Garcia as well as newcomers Lorraine Freund, Emily Friedrick, Sienna Harris, Earliana McLaurin, and Cynthia Shur.
The Hecubae opens Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 8:30pm. Performances run Thursdays through Saturdays at 8:30pm and Sundays at 3:30pm August 8-30. Tickets are $10, student rush tickets are $5. Tickets will go on sale on July 1 and will be available at www.brownpapertickets.com. Group rates are also available by calling the box office at 773-944-0292.
Bare Boned Theatre was founded by Co-Artistic Directors Jeffrey Bouthiette and Rebekah Walendzak to present work that transcends preconceived notions of type, highlighting the stories and utilizing the talents of those outside the arena of 'typical' society.
