Every show followed by a special guest performance to be announced each week.
THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR is the answer to all those enthusiastic audiences who asked for more stories form Miller's unusual life after they experienced the acclaimed FAREWELL TO THE TOOTH FAIRY, Miller's one-woman show about everyone's power to create his own destiny. THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MIRROR comes to the Off-Market Theater to continue the magic Miller spread at The Footloose Summer Festival in San Francisco in July and her triumphant month at C Venues in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. This production adds new stories and repeat old favorites. Each week will have a different mix of stories so audiences can attend several performances to hear new and original stories tinged with Miller's wry humor and of-the-wall take on life.
The stories presented in this production were selected from THOUGHTS WHILE WALKING THE DOG and MORE THOUGHTS WHILE WALKING THE DOG, Miller's acclaimed collection of columns that originally appeared in The Pacifica Tribune. They include such favorites as THE MELTING POT, a description of the challenges of bridging two cultures at the turn of the century and SAVING THE DOWNTRODDEN, a picture of the unexpected results of idolizing Eleanor Roosevelt, as well as others such as THE POLICEMAN IS MY FRIEND and RAIN, an essay about bearing up under California's weather. The show is 75 minutes of laughter and tears seasoned with an unvarnished dose of reality. It is everyone's story, old as time and new as tomorrow. . . Not to be missed. "Everyone will appreciate the play's universality," says Bay Times. "Ripe with wit and wisdom, Miller performs with the warm sincerity of a savvy lady who has learned many of life's valuable lessons. She makes eye contact with each of us, including each of us like a gracious hostess."
Lynn Ruth Miller has been published in various fields for forty years. Her writing often deals with feminist issues and appeals to readers who enjoy Laurie Colwin for her ethnic flavor and commentary on the idiosyncrasies of modern life, and Anne Tyler for her slightly out of sync frame of reference.
" To capture even a drop of the powerful energy that is Lynn Ruth Miller's life force would be enough to make writers and artists of us all." Chris Hunter, Editor The Pacifica Tribune
"Something for everyone in these beautifully written and thoughtful vignettes."
