freight. is an exploration into the lives of three Black women who, for different reasons, have found themselves sitting in the benefits office on the last Monday in November of 2008 at the onset of a global recession. During this visit, they share many of their unique experiences and have their understandings of life challenged. freight. takes a glimpse at the humanity of those in need, and how that humanity effects the lives of 3 Black women as they become entangled in a system governed by many who are not interested in ever learning their names. This piece attempts to dismiss the false narrative constructed about Black women in the United States and their relationships to government social safety nets.
