Have We Come A Long Way, Baby?
Have We Come A Long Way, Baby? curating is always in conversation with history, is a program celebrating and exploring the West Coast postmodern dance lineage through an intergenerational lineup of female soloists. The evening will bring together three generations of female choreographers with important ties to postmodernism: Anna Halprin, Simone Forti, Lucinda Childs, and Hope Mohr.
With the recent 50th anniversary of the Judson Dance Theater, the time is ripe for discussion and celebration of the West Coast's postmodern lineage. Halprin will perform (a rare event, as she is 95) The Courtesan and the Crone (1999), her acclaimed solo that addresses the aging body. Forti will perform her acclaimed Logomotion improvisation. Mohr will perform Carnation, Lucinda Childs' seminal 1964 solo. Additionally, Mohr will present a new solo, shard, based on decades of journals and performed by Peiling Kao. Each performance will culminate in a dialogue with the artists.
