About your hosts: In 1995 Ben Stenn came to Hood River via France and New York City where he had been a chef in several fine dining establishments. After operating two local Hood River restaurants for 10 years, he opened Celilo with a solid foundation of local producers and food people. Ben's simple philosophy is "Know your food. Know what it is, where it comes from, who grew it, when it was harvested, how it was prepared. It is an honor to be a part of this simple ethic."
Hood River Organic started out solely as an organic mushroom farm in 2004 but over the years has grown to include fruit trees and a market garden. Dan Thall is proud to be an integral part of the Northwest local food movement. Forming a cooperative partnership with other local, organic farms allows Hood River Organic to operate a year-round CSA (community supported agriculture)and supply local restaurants (like Celilo) and grocers with mushrooms and food from the cooperative partnership.
