BIO Banitsa is a Montreal-based instrumental group whose compositions draw from classical music, jazz, and the folk traditions of Québec and Eastern Europe. Their inspired, offbeat works carry audiences into a lively, unexpected world.
Honed over years of touring in Europe, in Quebec, and across Canada, their camaraderie brings a palpable energy that reveals an expressive range, allowing them to perform in both festive settings and more intimate concerts. Enriched by a wide array of artistic talents, extensive experiences, and multidisciplinary collaborations, including circus, theatre, and puppetry, the ensemble is now well-established on the independent music scenes of Montreal and Quebec.
The collective released their debut full-length album, Ravaudage, in the spring of 2022 under the direction of Malasartes Productions. On the cusp of the grand revival of live arts, the group is thrilled to once again share their musical imaginings.
Backed by national and provincial arts councils, Banitsa has built a strong touring presence in Québec; this fall marks their first tour into Western Canada. On stage, their energy and theatrical presence create a live performance experience not to be missed.
