Freak Show Double Feature & Carnival Masquerade

Come one, come all, step right up and take your chances! You there! Yes, you, the handsome fellow. And you, the lovely lady! You'll be shocked and amazed by what you see! Saturday night, July 19, the doors of the Egyptian Theater open for one night only on a spectacle never before seen in the City of Angels: A double feature film fantasia and carnival masquerade.

Tremble at the terrors of Nosferatu! Marvel at the human oddities of Freaks! If you find yourself overcome, just keep telling yourself it's only a movie!  Afterwards, for your pleasure and amusement, a carnival awaits in the courtyard. See fantastical feats of daring and skill! Dance, drink and mingle amidst spectacular sirens, mysterious magicians and more! Come in your craziest costume, your carnival couture or just what you have in the closet. The Freak Show welcomes all who want to be amazed and astonished!

About the movies:

NOSFERATU, 1922, 84 min, Germany, Dir: F.W. Murnau

When the eerie Count Orlok enlists estate agent Hutter to help him move from his castle in Transylvania to a house in Hutter's town, Hutter has no idea his new neighbor is a vampire who brings a plague of death in his wake. Only the innocent heart of Hutter's young wife can overcome the Count's terrifying rampage.

The silent classic based on the story of Dracula, Nosferatu's chilling depiction of the vampire Count Orlok burned its way into the public mind and remains influential to this day.

FREAKS, 1932, 64 minutes, USA, Dir: Tod Browning

Seduction, betrayal and terror at the circus! Beautiful trapeze artist Cleopatra mocks the sideshow freaks until she finds out about midget Hans' inheritance. Together she conspires with her lover, the strongman Hercules, to seduce Hans for his money. Blinded by her beauty, Hans ignores the warnings of his fellow freaks until their wedding party, when Cleopatra reveals her evil intent in a drunken rage. Together, the freaks exact a brutal revenge.

Banned for years and so reviled in its time that it ruined the career of director Tod Browning, Freaks has since been embraced by audiences the world over and has enjoyed a cult following lasting decades.

About the party:

Sexy, dark and daring live performances by the world-famous Cirque Berzerk, strange and exotic goods in the Vendor Bazaar, and the legendary tour guide of LA's dark underbelly, the one and only Crimebo the Clown will MC. Plenty of fantastical photo opportunities with our strolling entertainers and carnival exhibits.
