3B: Film Budgeting on a Budget
Having a realistic, detailed, and thought-out budget is key to attracting investors. It's also key to getting the most out of the money you haveand to getting your film on the screen. In this workshop, we will look at a wide range of actual film budgets: the no-budget short, the "calling-card" short, as well as the micro-budget, under-mil, and multimillion-dollar feature. Which corners do you cut, when do you not compromise, and how do you apply creative problem solving to your budget? Ela Thier, filmmaker and founder of the Independent Film School, has produced numerous award-winning films and has helped many filmmakers make sense of the numbers.
