Designing the Feminist City: Autonomous Design for a Radically Feminist Future
*free* workshop welcoming women and other marginalised genders
What challenges do women face in urban environments, and how can feminist city planning address them?
Join our free and relaxed workshop to explore these questions collaboratively. Inspired by "Sharing Cities: A Case for Truly Smart and Sustainable Cities," we will delve into feminist design principles such as city as platform, collective commons, and the public realm in an accessible way. We will engage in open discussions on housing, intergenerational spaces, blue-green areas, and transport, focusing on their impact on women's safety and wellbeing, and participate in hands-on activities to envision feminist neighbourhoods. Together, we will integrate our designs into a collective vision of a feminist city. This session encourages discussion, inspiration, and collaboration to imagine a feminist urban landscape and answer, what does a feminist city look like?
FEMINIST EXCHANGE NETWORK'S MOBILE LIBRARY
Our growing collection of books began at Swap Market, a non-monetary exchange project we ran in Govanhill Glasgow from 2018-2020 - a woman* led space for the exchange of resources, knowledge and ideas.
We began collecting books that looked at different types of economy, community networks and alternatives to the capitalist system. As the project grew our book collection has expanded to include books on decolonisation, climate justice and environmental activism.
In 2021 local artists Hannah Brackston designed and built out bike-drawn mobile library to allow us to take our resources out and about.
ABOUT FEMINIST EXCHANGE NETWORK
Feminist Exchange Network is a South Glasgow based women-led* collective. We use social and activist art to explore how ideas of feminist economics relate to peoples lived experience. Our projects explore academic ideas in accessible formats, encouraging community discussion, enacting alternative economic models - thinking about global economic challenges while putting things into practice at a local level.
