Worm Comporting
According to the EPA, approximately 10% of the waste stream is food and over 38% of the waste stream is paper. These materials can be removed from the waste stream and used as resources, specifically food and bedding, for a worm bin. Worm composting involves using red wiggler worms to turn food scraps, shredded newspapers and cardboard into a nutrient-rich compost, which can be added to potted plants, lawns or gardens. It is convenient and can be done indoors or outdoors.
Learn about the benefits of composting with worms. It's easy, fun, odorless and produces a great soil additive! Workshop participants will learn how to house, feed, harvest and care for their own worms. Building a satisfactory worm bin is easy and inexpensive, and worm compost can be harvested in two or three months. We will show you how to build a worm bin, feed worms and harvest the compost for use indoors or out.
