Works and Process In-Studio Performance
Join us for two work-in-progress performances of new work from our current resident choreographers, Monica Gonzalez and Kyle Marshall. The performances will be followed by an audience feedback session with the artists and light reception.

Works and Process is a collaboration between coLAB Arts and Lustig Dance Theatre, co-curated by Lauren Connolly and Bat Abbit. The residency supports emerging NJ choreographers through provided studio space to create a new work of dance, in-studio performance, and a premiere performance in a New Brunswick downtown main stage production.

Monica Gonzalez is from Stockton, NJ.  She attended Rutgers University with a Presidential full-academic Scholarship and graduated with a BFA in Dance from Mason Gross School of the Arts in 2012.  While in school, she was a member of the student dance company University DanceWorks for three years and worked with distinguished guest artists such as Banu Ogan(Cunningham Company), Jennifer Muller, Inbal Pinto, and Danielle Agami (Batsheva).  After graduating, Monica joined lustigdancetheatre located in New Brunswick, NJ.  Some recent performance highlights include the Rochester Fringe Festival with the PicPAC, the Summer Streets festival in NYC with Yung-li Dance, and the DUMBO Arts Festival in Brooklyn, NY with Esse Aficionado.  As a choreographer, Monica works with a strong sense of space and form.  She has created several works, most recently a self-choreographed solo presented as part of a showcase through lustigdancetheatre.  She received the Margery Turner Choreographer Prize for her senior-year group work in 2012.  In addition to performing and choreographing, Monica has a strong interest in videography and video editing.  She designed a thesis researching the perception of video and the body, and two of her short films were screened at American College Dance Festival and The Outlook Dance Project Film Festival.  She also worked at New York Live Arts to create the 2013-2014 season trailer.

Kyle Marshall was raised in North Brunswick, NJ. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2011 with his BFA in dance from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. While in school, Kyle was a Carr Scholarship recipient and was also awarded the Dance Express Choreographer's Prize for his notable body of artistic work. He has had the opportunity to work with choreographers Graham Lustig and Benoit- Swan Pouffer and has performed work by Mark Morris and Urban Bushwomen. Kyle currently dances for Doug Elkins Choreography Etc, is a founding member of Randy James' 10 Hairy Legs and also dances for Freespace Dance and Meagan Woods & Company. His choreography has been presented at WAXworks at Triskelion Arts in Brooklyn, Rutgers Alumni Concert 2012, The Historic Loew's Theater and Your Move festival in Jersey City.
