Bodigram presents " Hysteria" with guest choreographer Alison Williams
"Hysteria" is BodiGram's satirical examination of Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), an extremely rare mental disorder characterized by at least two distinct and enduring personality states that alternately control a person's behavior. Through the careful, mindful, and detailed examination of this extreme psychological disorder, "Hysteria" articulates the ways in which all individuals dissociate at different times to deal with challenging situations, rationalize choices and behavior, and cope with the absurd and overwhelming. Acknowledging that everyone has alter egos, though not as strong as those suffering from DID, BodiGram compels the audience to examine when and why these alter egos emerge.
BodiGram does not seek to poke fun at those who suffer from mental illness or DID, but hopes to present the topic in a whimsically informative manner while uncovering the ways we all dissociate when the times get tough. In modern society, the line between sanity and mental illness is thin. Laughter is a necessity.
" Hysteria" is proceeded by Alison Williams' choreography. Alison Williams' piece "Escape is Impossible" is a beautiful melancholy duet for two women exploring Alan Watt's "The Wisdom of Insecurity." BodiGram is excited to share a show with Ms. Williams.
