Women's Centre Tour
** we will close ticket reservations at 10am on Saturday 14/10/23 for the performance at Round Chapel - so please do book in before that, as there will only be enough seats for those who have reserved!

We are delighted to announce that after a sell-out run at Oxford House earlier this year, the Women's Centre is making a local tour!

We are so looking forward to welcoming more audiences for an evening of theatre and sisterhood. Do come and join us, absolutely everyone is welcome.

The Women's Centre Play:
The play is set within the course of a working day at a fictional Women's Centre in East London. It is a peek behind the curtain into the world of charity - through exploring the frictions and contradictions at play in the sector, it asks questions of who holds the power and whether it could be redistributed to benefit the whole system.

Most of all, it's an ode to sisterhood and the transformative power of community spaces filled with warmth and heart.

Audience reviews:

-- "The play was so uplifting  the sense of sisterhood and community that was created was inspiring to see And the serious messages about power and the charity sector were interspersed with humour and humanity  we so enjoyed ourselves!"

-- "I adore the way that by building a community of women to create the show, it feels that the team practiced what they preached."

-- "The play was fantastic. I thought the themes ranging from, motherhood, safety, domestic abuse, overworking, bureaucracy etc were amazingly handled. I think that ultimately the play managed to touch on a very difficult issue but provided a very hopeful and uplifting message."

Our Women's Centre is brought to life by a diverse group of women with a shared longing for healing and mutual empowerment.

Our focus is always on the process rather than the product; the clue is in our name, The Play is Not the Thing. The performance you will see is the completion of 10 weeks of coming together as women to celebrate, unite and empower one another - through a process of creative workshops featuring dance, body percussion, yoga, poetry and play. Exploring the therapeutic potential of making art, we recognise that we need much more than professional services to have our basic needs met in order to thrive, not just survive, in the world. It takes a village to lift a woman.

We hope you will feel empowered and entertained by the performance... we cannot wait to welcome you to our Women's Centre.

There will be mention of domestic violence in the play, so please be mindful of this when considering booking if you have lived experience of this.
