Coil Building with Erin McGuiness
Coil-building is a fun and meditative method for creating both functional and sculptural forms in clay. During a one day workshop, Erin will demonstrate the coiling techniques she honed over the last 10 + years. Coiling opens up a world of possibilities for the potter/artist including the ability to make almost any form you can dream up, both spherical and non-spherical forms, vessels with multiple axis's, large forms and both organic and non-organic shapes. The process is wonderful for beginners and advanced hand builders/throwers who want to expand their practice in new directions. With Erin's guidance, you will also have time to play with the process yourself. Grab your banding wheel and favorite tools and join us for a day of coiling!
Erin McGuiness is an accomplished sculptor whose hand-coiled vessels are in private collections stretching from coast to coast. She carries a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Quaker's Earlham College in Indiana and a year long immersion with Pennsylvania potter Dale Huffman preceded her journey to the West Coast in 1998. Most recently she was featured as an AD Discovery in Architectural Digest Magazine and named a Style Maker by Luxe Magazine.
