The rest of the run of Killer Joe is entirely SOLD OUT! Very exciting but also very sad if you haven't had the chance to see it yet. ITSAZOO Productions presents the Vancouver Premiere of the grisly, pitch-black comedy Killer Joe. Penned by Pulitzer Prize winner Tracy Letts (August: Osage County), this 'trailer-trash noir' follows the Smiths: a hilariously dysfunctional Texas family who engage a contract killer in a scheme to collect life insurance. This site-specific production offers intimate audiences of 35 people unflinching proximity to the homicidal kinfolk.
"Killer Joe is theatre for the Tarantino and HBO crowd; a bloody, sexy, brilliant piece of work with something to say," says Chelsea Haberlin, Killer Joe's Jessie award winning director. "We can't wait to welcome artistic risk-takers to our trailer park!"
Located in the parking lot adjacent to the Italian Cultural Centre (3075 Slocan), audiences will be invited to engage in the fully-immersive environment before and after the show. The elaborate set-up will feature: the Smith's mobile-home (and main performance area); a southern inspired concession stand featuring hot dogs, Phillips beer, and moonshine; various 'trailer park installations' that will offer deeper experiential insights into world of the show.
Killer Joe marks the second production in ITSAZOO's Premiere Series, which presents site-specific versions of debut works by renowned playwrights. The series' first production was 2012's award-winning production of Jez Butterworth's Mojo. Killer Joe will be brought to life by a stellar cast of local talent, including Sebastien Archibald, Meghan Chenosky, Ted Cole, Emma Slipp, and Colby Wilson as the titular killer.
WARNING: This production contains Violence, Nudity, Coarse Language, smoke and Simulated Sex. This is a show for adults. Leave the kids at home.
