In Depth Tour
The Richardson Olmsted Complex
Buffalo, NY
Share this event:

This two hour tour examines the philosophies that architect Henry Hobson Richardson, landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, and psychiatrist Dr. Thomas Kirkbride integrated into the purpose-built Buffalo State Asylum for the Insane.  You will also have the chance to learn about the future modifications to create a hotel, conference and event center, and architecture center for Buffalo.  With access to secondary spaces in the Towers Building and former patient buildings not available on the Welcome Tour, your docent will describe the past, present, and future of these spaces in varying states of disrepair and reuse.  This tour requires significant walking and climbing of stairs.

Note: Tour routes are subject to change due to construction.  For those interested in taking photographs, please see our designated photography tours.  There will be no photography allowed on this tour.
