Eat for Equity March: Water1st International
In our modern homes, it's easy to take clean water for granted: we open the faucet, and immediately, water safe for drinking and cooking flows out. Obtaining clean water seems so simple and direct, we rarely give it a thought.
But in impoverished communities around the world, the situation is much different. 2.5 billion people do not have access to clean water and a simple toilet. This lack of access causes disease that disproportionately affects children, and oppresses women & girls, perpetuating a cycle of illiteracy and poverty.
Water1st envisions a world free of extreme poverty where everyone has access to a sustainable, clean water supply and a toilet.
Water1st works toward this vision by enabling the world's poorest people to build, sustain, and manage projects that integrate clean water, toilets, and hygiene education. We will solve this crisis when we build a community of concerned people and together, take simple and effective actions. At our dinner, we'll learn how Water1st works with community partners to build and maintain sustainable water projects in Honduras, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, and India.
In January, we came together to raise over $1000 to support ROOTS Young Adult Shelter and the vital work they do in Seattle. In March, let's do it again in support of Water1st International! Our dinner will feature a delicious Bengali menu: Chapati Chickpea & Vegetable Salad Saag Alu Dal Bengali Meatballs Biryani Rice Carrot Fudge Rajbhog
All are welcome at this private party, but please RSVP to ensure your spot (and make sure we cook enough food)!
Interested in volunteering for this dinner? Simply enter your name & email address into our volunteer sign-up sheet! (http://bit.ly/1nBRWAn)
Want to help E4E continue to do our good work? Give a little more! If you have a spare plate or an odd-plate-out at your home, bring it, dine off it, and leave it for us to wash -- we'll continue to put it to good use at future dinners!
As always, we encourage our guests to bike or take public transit. Metro Transit routes 120, 125, & 128 stop near Puget Ridge Cohousing. If you drive, street parking is encouraged on 18th Avenue SW.
