RERA March 18th Dinner Event "Golden Gate Bridge at 75"
The Golden Gate Bridge at 75 Presented by: Bob David, AIA Architect and photographer - Informal historian and archivist of the Bridge
About Bob David: Bob David, a long time Bridge District employee, began working for the Bridge District 40 years ago. He is an architect and functioned as Design Director for the agency until his retirement in 2003. During that time as an informal historian and archivist of the Bridge he documented various construction projects including the re-decking work in the 1980's. Retired from his full-time duties, Bob now works part-time photo-documenting the bridge's $400 million seismic retrofit project, estimated to be complete by 2015. He has captured the bridge's vibrant color in photographs that spanned over 1,000 assignments. It's all part of the life of being the official photographer of the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway, and Transportation District.
Bob will recount his personal journey encountering various historical, artistic, and architectural anecdotes about the Bridge. In 2012 he helped curate the exhibit of original Bridge drawings, paintings and artifacts at the California Historical Society in San Francisco. His lecture stems from that exhibit. To achieve the high resolution results of milestone project images, Bob frequently uses an historic large format camera, which he will both describe AND demonstrate. Expect a lively evening, and a unique perspective into this celebrated San Francisco landmark. Don't miss it!
