THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST
Plymouth Community Theatre presents 'The Importance of Being Earnest' by Oscar Wilde

Directed by Peter Trenouth

This is a farcical comedy in which the protagonists maintain fictitious persons in order to escape burdensome social obligations. Working within the social conventions of late Victorian London, the play's major themes are the triviality with which it treats institutions as serious as marriage, and the resulting satire of Victorian ways. Its high farce and witty dialogue have helped make The Importance of Being Earnest Wilde's most enduringly popular play.

Cast

James Gifford (Jack)

Educated at the Media Performance Institute of Boston, James Gifford has been acting professionally for several years in independent films and several featured roles in larger studio productions. James plans to make the move to a larger acting market before the end of the year with plans to be a working actor. An accomplished musician, James plays several instruments including guitar and piano. In between music and film projects, James is currently writing his own feature length screenplay with hopes of seeing it into production. The biggest joy for James is to spend quality time with his dogs. He is thrilled to make his stage debut with Plymouth Community Theatre as Jack Worthing in "The Importance of Being Earnest".

Paul McCuen (Lane)

Paul is very grateful for another opportunity to work with PCT. He last appeared with PCT in their production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. He most recently performed at The Company Theater in the Winter Shorts Play Festival. Over the past few years, he has appeared with Hat Trick Theatre in See How They Run, Lie Cheat and Genuflect, Mousetrap and A Christmas Carol (in the role of Scrooge!!). He has also performed with the Milton Players in The Dairy of Anne Frank, and with the Bay Players in Our Town, The Man Who Came to Dinner, The Matchmaker and Glengarry Glen Ross. His brief musical "career", with Hingham Civic Music Theatre, included roles in Carousel, and Annie. Paul currently serves as an officer of the Bay Players and as a board member at Marshfield Country Club. As always, he wishes to thank his wife Dottie for her patience and support in his theatrical endeavors.

Helen Churchill (Miss Prism)

This is Helen's first performance with PCT, having previously helped out backstage on several of it's shows. How exciting to be part of the first production at 'The Spire'! Helen most often can be found lurking about the backstage areas of Hat Trick Theatre productions- with the occasional foray onstage. Her most memorable performance was her one-night-only-turn/fill-in as the Ghost of Christmas Present, when the actor playing it fell ill. That also gave her great practice in quick-changes, as she then had to be ready to play The Charwoman, almost immediately after leaving the stage to make room for the next Ghost. (Hat Trick Theatre's production of 'A Christmas Carol' this past winter season was memorable in many ways!) Many thanks to PCT for letting me be part of this experience. Even more thanks to Sally Wright-Hull of my Hat Trick 'home', for the fun, the growth, and adventure known as theatre! God bless both groups, for keeping theatre alive in Plymouth. And, blessings upon all the people who help out back-stage, producers, ushers and ticket-sellers included! They make it work. Helen would like to dedicate her performance to her Mom, and, as always, Mike. '1-2-3' to you both.

Elliott Levy (Canon Chasuble)

This is Elliott's first Plymouth Community Theater appearance. He made his acting debut when he appeared in two one-act Noel Coward plays at the Priscilla Beach Theatre in Plymouth. He has since appeared in the Nemasket River Productions' Miss Firecracker Contest, the Hat Trick Theater's Mousetrap and the Bay Players productions of Pirates of Penzance, See How They Run, and Matchmaker. As Elliott pursues his interest in community theatre, he continues to perform in the classroom on a regular basis at Bentley University where he has been an accounting professor for the past 30+ years. He wishes to thank his wife, Joanne, for being so supportive, director Peter Trenouth and the PCT for the opportunity to be a part of their first Spire show, and his 7 Thursday night card-playing buddies for forgiving the debt he has incurred for missing so many Thursday night Cribbage games.

Bill Driscoll (Algernon)

Bill only began his acting career in 2009 with the Plymouth Community Theater (PCT) production of Money, Power, Murder Since then he has appeared in numerous PCT productions; radio productions of A Christmas Carol (as Bob Cratchet) on WUMD & WATD; The Man Who Came to Dinner & The Matchmaker with The Bay Players; Nicky and Dee with The Pinehills Players; The Night Nurse & Signs of Life with The Theater at Hollywood and Vine; and An Evening with Cole Porter with Nemasket River Productions. In addition, Bill served as the voice in radio ads for Sen. Therese Murray's re-election campaigns in 2010 & 2012 and appeared in the short film, Don't Let Go, to be released in 2014. In real life, Bill works as a financial planner for his firm, Driscoll Financial in Plymouth.

Amanda Hayter (Gwendolyn)

Amanda is very excited to be participating for the first time with Plymouth Community Theatre in one of her all-time favorite plays. Her favorite roles include the infamous snake charmer in Hat Trick's Talking With, Georgeanne in Bay Players' Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, and the masculine Miss Casewell in Hat Trick's The Mousetrap. She has also worked extensively with The Theater at Hollywood and Vine. Amanda would like to thank her family, friends, and amazing boyfriend Mike for their unconditional love and support.

Elizabeth Soule (Cecily)

Elizabeth majored in Theatre Arts at Palm Beach Atlantic University where she enjoyed playing nine different characters in A.R. Gurney's The Dining Room and a Russian hit-woman named Dasha in the series Campus Legends. Since graduating from college Elizabeth has had roles in a number of short indie films, participated in 24 hour film competitions, and performed onstage as Emily in Our Town with the Duxbury Bay Players. In 2010 she made her debut at Plymouth Community Theatre playing several characters in Almost, Maine and returned later that summer as Helena in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Elizabeth is very excited to get back on stage after a busy few years beginning a career as a teacher and getting married!

Renee Altman (Merriman)

Renee is back to the Theatre as an actress after a long hiatus. She is happy to be acting with the Director and cast at Plymouth Community Theatre. She has performed at Priscilla Beach Theatre as Kate in Brighton Beach Memoirs, and won an award for this performance. Also, she played Lady Bracknell, in the Importance of being Earnest. She was also, seen as The Mother Superior, in Foxtrot. When not acting, she is singing, in such groups as Persphone's Daughters and other groups. She would also like to thank her friends and family for all their support. Especially, David for all his patience and love, in all her creative endeavors.

Susan Wyoral  ( Lady Bracknell )

Susan Wyoral is delighted to be performing in Plymouth Community Theater's production of The Importance of Being Earnest. Lady Bracknell is her first theatrical role. She came to acting after a checkered past and has spent the last several years studying with local acting teacher Kevin Lasit. Having working primarily in films, she's looking forward to an immediate audience response and promises not to wait for director Peter Trenouth to shout ACTION!
