Many of the dances in the Yiddish/klezmer repertoire are what are called figure dances. These are dances done by a group in formations like squares, rows of facing lines, or couples in a circle. This class, taught by world-renowned Yiddish dance instructor Steve Weintraub, will present several of these fun and social dances, including the runde, in squares; a patsh tants (clapping dance) done by couples in a circle; and the ferdl galop (horsey gallop), a dance for pairs in long facing lines, often called a longways set. With musical accompaniment by accordionist Lauren Brody.
