Portraits from a Fire (SCR Derek Vermillion/DIR Trevor Mack. CANADA, 2022, color, 92:03. Drama.) Filmed on the Tl'etinqox (Anaham) Reserve, British Columbia. A coming-of-age story about Tyler, an eccentric, lonely teenager who spends his days filmmaking, vlogging his Indigenous community, and hanging out with his grandparents. His father, Gord, is physically present but emotionally absent for reasons Tyler cant understand until he meets mysterious, charismatic Aaron, who encourages him to showcase to the community his most personal film, about his mothers disappearance, leading to a reckoning between past and future, life and death, father and son. By finding the courage to face the fear of the unknown, he weaves together the strong sacred bonds of family through living and ancestral realms. (In English.)
