Footworks Youth Ballet Peter and the Wolf AND Les Sylphides
In our version of Peter and The Wolf, we include original and fun variations to Sergei Prokofiev's well-known children's classic. Of course, you will see your old favorites, including the Wolf, Peter, Grandfather, the Bird, Cat and Ducks but we will also feature lively performances by leaping Frogs, Villagers, Squirrels and Hunters. Kirsten Oakley, Footworks Artistic Director, has added wonderful twists to the story, to make the audience laugh while allowing more artistry for the dancers.
Inspired by the 19th century romantic ballets, Les Sylphides presents an ethereal evocation of the eternal femininity danced with the melancholy "poet" in search of an ideal. Set to music by Chopin and originally choreographed by Mikhail Fokine, the ballet captures the intangible and poetic atmosphere of a dream.
Inspired by Ventura College Photography Professor and local Ventura artist, Bill Hendricks' research of Cuban culture, Footworks Youth Ballet dancers perform a new Modern work, choreographed by Meredith Lyons, set to music by acclaimed Cuban musician Ruben Gonzalez. This piece explores the history and lineage of Cuban dance movement through the African Diaspora and Social Dance forms.
Footworks Youth Ballet is a nonprofit ballet company located in Ventura, California, whose purpose is to provide educational opportunities to young people and the community through the art of ballet.
