Wizard's Way
Joe and Chris are two ambitious young filmmakers looking for subjects for a reality TV show. They set out to find Windows a living legend amongst gamers dedicated to Wizards Way, an ageing online fantasy video game. Julian Windows Andrews turns out to be a stereotypical nerd, sharing a minuscule apartment with his best friend Barry Tubbulb. Their entire existence revolves around playing Wizards Way. Joe and Chris see an opportunity to exploit the gamers and further their own careers; soon theyre blatantly crossing ethical lines... -- Programmer Notes -- As chairman of the mockumentary committee, I see a lot of mocks and most of them are difficult to endure. Why is that? A surplus of attempts because the good ones make it look so easy? I don't know. What I do know is that I love Wizard's Way (not only a mock, but a "found footage" film as well). Possessing all the components of a technically successful mock - naturalistic performances, clever editing and thoughtful camerawork - Wizard's Way raises the bar with its storytelling and humor. The jokes are covertly subtle and caused me to spit my drink TWICE before admitting defeat and placing my beverage out of arm's reach. The story is achingly charming and hits like a time-release, exploring many themes including relationships, delusions, exploitation, obsession, fame, love and hamburgers. You don't have to be a fan of MMORPG's or dragons to enjoy it because at its core, Wizards Way is about friendship. And using cameras to heal people. -- Kent Osborne, Narrative Features Programmer
