MEARRA - SELKIE FROM THE SEA debut and filming at the Irish American Heritage Center in Chicago
"Her strong, self-assured vocals and lyrical style that examines the usual romantic turf without resorting to cliches....Smith's voice is well worth hearing."
Jim DeRogatis, Chicago Sun-Times

"Smith enriches the pastoral backdrop in her songs with a golden voice and a sensitive ear towards arrangement."
Andy Downing, Chicago Tribune

ON THE HEELS OF HER SUCCESSFUL original multi-media music show, " The Triumph of Artemisia", Linda Marie Smith presents another magical performance, "MEARRA ~ SELKIE FROM THE SEA".

The tale begins with Mearra, a young Selkie maiden, who falls in love with a lonely fisherman named Ian. From the moment he sees her, Ian is enchanted by her beauty. So, Mearra bids farewell to her life in the sea, marries Ian and starts a family.
However, a Selkie cannot live on the land forever. The sea eventually calls for Mearra's return in this bittersweet tale of love, loss and transformation.
Smith's creative imagination led her to write a songcycle about the Celtic story of a Selkie, a mythical seal that has the mysterious ability to shed its skin and transform into a human being.

"I have always thought of music as one of the most beautiful ways to communicate and share feelings. The story of Mearra ~Selkie from the Sea has a universal message that touches all of us. The message is love. We yearn for it, risk our lives for it, succumb to it and we thrive in it.  Having you participate in this experience will allow this story to be presented to many others around the world.", says Smith.

Presented on March 1st of 2014 at the IRISH AMERICAN HERITAGE CENTER in Chicago, this unique stage presentation will feature a full musical ensemble, narration to guide you through this romantic adventure along with captivating animation designed especially for the event. The show will be filmed for PBS to present the entire production for broadcast and DVD.

Please, feel free to share this information and do try to join us for the debut multi-media concert on March 1st. It will be wonderful to see you there.
