Sitar and Cello in Taos
Paul Livingstone and Pete Jacobson, musicians of SANGAM DUO, visit Taos to make their recording debut with Yarlung Records. As part of their visit, Pete and Paul will present an intimate concert at Bareiss Gallery near the Blinking Light at 7pm on September 11th. Tony Walker and Max Jones of Jones Walker Gallery on Bent Street are sponsoring the concert so all ticket proceeds benefit the Social Services division of the Indian Health Department at Taos Pueblo, putting food directly into the hands of the people who need it. Coronavirus cases are low at the pueblo right now thanks to careful management but the pandemic has increased hunger in vulnerable parts of the pueblo community.
Sitar virtuoso Paul Livingstone and master cellist Peter Jacobson perform innovative compositions and improvisations straddling the worlds of Indian classical music and European polyphony, running the gamut between deep musical meditations and dynamic poly-rhythmic counterpoint. The free spirit of jazz improvisation and touches of Latin and popular music styles help to enrich the Duos unique sound. The Hindi word sangam means confluence, as in a confluence of rivers, apt for the this musical duo. Join us at Bareiss Gallery and hear Paul and Pete relish these musical streams and influences flowing collaboratively into one great river.
Paul & Pete have recorded and toured together for over 12 years performing with Arohi Ensemble, Build an Ark and Quartetto Fantastico among many other projects born from the creative global Los Angeles music community. Paul and Peter have played on and helped to win Grammy® Awards for Ozomatli, Quetzal & Ricky Kej.
