Fishtail Cottage Self Guided Garden Tour
August 14th 10am -1pm, this will be the last Garden Tour for the year.
I will have cards and bath salts for sale as well as taking preorders for 2022 calendars.
We moved into our home in February 2006. My dream was to someday have a true English / Cottage garden filled with Antique Roses and perennials. We had the bones of the landscape laid out with pathways and grass areas and terraced by our builder, but I spent countless hours researching what I wanted in my gardens. Once I began to map out and plan, I quickly realized how expensive planning a garden was going to be. I decided to use mostly mail-order companies and purchased large quantities of shrubs and perennials which were very small when they arrived on my doorstep. Many of the trees you see now started off six inches tall when they were originally placed in their location. For me it was difficult to see many years into the future and allow enough room for plants to grow. Sometimes it felt very frustrating to plant hundreds of dollars worth of plantings and feel that the garden looked so sparse. Some plants have needed to be divided and moved as Mother Nature had her own ideas.some have even had to be removed from the garden completely due to overcrowding or natural conditions. I do have a sprinkler system in place with both sprinkler heads and drip lines. Every year it is a process of making sure everything is being watered as the garden grows and changes. We do have three Shih tzus and several Silkie Chickens that roam the garden, so I do try to be good about using good fertilizers and organic material but must admit sometimes in a garden like mine I do turn to other options for help.
In 2018 I was recognized by the Seattle Times and since then have had many garden clubs and organizations reach out about Garden Tours. I have had several private individuals hire me to help them in their gardens to do both Consulting and Design. I have had Better Homes and Gardens Magazine as well as Country Gardens Magazine photograph my landscape for past article features. Ive worked with a local publishing company Martingale Publishing that has recently published several Quilting books that my Garden is featured in as well.
Rain or shine - I hope you enjoy exploring the garden and I look forward to hearing from anyone that visits this ever-evolving landscape of mine. I do have a Blog, Facebook and Instagram account that you can find under Fishtail Cottage I would love for you to follow me. Please feel free to ask questions or send a note to me at any time. I love meeting other gardeners and am very passionate about helping others.
