The Ithaca College Rod Serling Conference presents IT'S A GOOD LIFE
A new theatrical adaptation of IT'S A GOOD LIFE, the classic short story and Twilight Zone episode, will receive a free workshop production this November in Ithaca, NY. You can reserve a seat now!

IT'S A GOOD LIFE is the story of six-year-old Anthony Fremont, an all-American farm boy who happens to have enormous and inexplicable mental powers. Anthony holds his isolated Ohio town in terror, awe, and rigid conformity. Those townspeople who are seen as "good" in Anthony's eyes earn the daily right to live. The "bad" townspeople are sent into the cornfield, never to emerge. The town's residents have learned to police each other, successfully creating a sitcom-like veneer of pleasant American existence.

Jerome Bixby's memorably scary and darkly humorous 1953 short story has earned a place in the horror canon. Rod Serling's 1961 adaptation for The Twilight Zone is one of the most famous television productions of all time, ranked among the series' top ten episodes by Time Magazine and TV Guide. It has inspired everything from a feature film segment to a "Treehouse of Horror" episode of The Simpsons.

Now, with the permission of Jerome Bixby's estate and the CBS Network, IT'S A GOOD LIFE is given new life as a theatre piece that incorporates puppetry, live performance, installation art, and animation. This workshop presentation will take place on November 8th and 9th at 8:00 PM in a studio space at the Old Cinemapolis (Center Ithaca). It is adapted and directed by IC Theatre Department alum Dan Jones and will feature a puppetry team led by alum Chava Curland. This is a local satellite event to the bi-annual Ithaca College Rod Serling Conference, which takes place in Los Angeles for the first time this year.

This production is dedicated to the memory of Rod Serling, the six-time Emmy-winning writer who taught at Ithaca College from the late 1960s until his death in 1975. Known for his crackling dialogue, ironic wit, and compassionate social politics, Serling is one of the few masters of dramatic storytelling to emerge from the early years of television.
