Wood Type Print/Poster Workshop
Come explore our large collection of vintage wood and metal type and learn the traditional process of letterpress printing. Students will set their own print or poster in this one day letterpress workshop. Spend the day getting inky and leave with a set of handmade prints.
This workshop will include handsetting wood and metal type, hot metal typesetting on the ludlow (and maybe linotype) and instruction on our flatbed Vandercook and treadle operated clamshell press. Students will leave with a small edition of their own design, plus copies of everyone else's posters.
Workshop Hours: 10 am - 5 pm (workshop includes a lunch break with pizza lunch provided by Il Porto)
Woodside Press is located in Building 3 of the historic Brooklyn Navy Yard in Brookyn, New York. This 5,000 sq. ft. shop houses a large collection of antique metal and wood type, hot metal casting equipment, and a variety of presses. During this workshop, not only will you learn this unique traditional craft, you'll go back in time and experience printing in a hands-on way before computers came into the picture.
No experience needed. Open to Beginners interested in learning the craft, as well as, those with some experience interested in expanding their skills.
This workshop will be co-taught by Davin Kuntze and Bessie Anderson. Davin has been a printer at Woodside Press for 8 years. Bessie is the current guest printer at Woodside and owner of B.IMPRESSED.
