Sam Singleton Atheist Evangelist, Patrirchs and Penises
Sam Singleton Atheist Evangelist, Patriarchs and Penises, is a satirical enactment of a revival meeting.
The first of the one-man plays two acts is divided between Brother Sams personal testimony of his rise from a childhood among "tongues speaking, snake handling, frothing at the mouth, holy rollers from the Ozarks," and the sermon proper in which he calls down a blistering hail of brimstone on the heads of politicians and voters who relegate atheists to Americas hind tit.
Act II, from which the play takes its title, consists mainly of the Bible Class in which Brother Sam recounts the central role of that part of the male anatomy throughout the Scriptures.
Spokesperson Ruby Brown of Dogberry, Bottom and Sly, the New York producers of the play, explains that the Sam Singleton character grew out of the question of what someone subjected to a particularly severe religious upbringing might have to say if he grew up to be a sort of anti-preacher. She adds, "I'm probably safe in stating outright that it is definitely not for the easily offended. Brother Sam is outrageous and provocative; but, more importantly, he is also incredibly funny and insightful."
The show runs for an hour and a half, plus one 15 minute intermission.
