A VERY LESBIAN NUTCRACKER & HUNG BY THE CHIMNEY
Jefferson County actors bring the kink, heartbreak, and hilarity of the holiday season to The Paradise stage in Scot Augustsons  A VERY LESBIAN NUTCRACKER and its companion piece HUNG BY THE CHIMNEY, both directed by Pattie Miles Van Beuzekom.

In A VERY LESBIAN NUTCRACKER, Clara (Conseula Aduviso) plays a lesbian going through a mid-life crisis.  Clara escapes the real world by imagining that she was once a scholarship girl in Lisbon at St. Leslies Catholic Academy of the Danse. The school is a combination of a Boarding School/Ballet Conservatory for girls run by Sister Madame Esmirelda (Erik Van Beuzekom).  Frustrated by her attraction to fellow student, Gisella ( Camille Hildebrant), Claras creepy Uncle Chester (Scott Nollette) takes her on a Christmas Fantasia that leads her through a whirl  wind of lesbian cliches and raunchy adventures.

In HUNG BY THE CHIMNEY, a beautiful dame (Heather Poulsen) hires the terse, tough-talking "Molly O'Malley, Private Dick" (Pattie Miles Van Beuzekom) to find a lost monkey.  The other stock noir characters, brainy office lady (Michelle Stay), ditzy stool pigeon (Charles Duncan), hapless cop (Cheron Dudley), spunky girl reporter (Madeline McClure), saucey dock worker (Jeanne Murphy), and mysterious foreign woman (Sam Cavallaro) are perfectly suited to this very lesbian pot boiler.

The stellar production team includes stage manager Harriet Stay, lighting designers Steve Arbuckle and Erik Van Beuzekom, hair and makeup designer Angela Agnew, scenic painter Michelle Stay, costume designer Susan Latham, and sound designer David Christensen.

These performances contain mature themes of a sexual nature that may provoke, shock, and offend. Playwright Scot Augustson says,A VERY LESBIAN NUTCRACKER and HUNG BY THE CHIMNEY are part of a long history of transgressive comedy, which includes Aristophanes, Chaucer, Punch & Judy, Ubu Roi, Joe Orton, John Waters, and Sarah Silverman. Part of the fun is how inappropriate it is. There is a certain jab at polite society. All humor uses surprise as a tool, and these fall under the "What is the most unexpected thing that can happen?" category. And it isn't always gentle.  Frankly, the plays wouldn't be doing their job if some people didn't think it went too far.
