Judson's Shower of Stoles - Minneapolis
Shower of Stoles, a nationally touring collection of stoles of LGBT church leaders unable to openly serve, returns to Minneapolis in October. Judson Memorial Baptist Church is exhibiting part of the collection at a community showing in the church sanctuary. Admission is free and open to the public.
The stoles exhibit is a beautiful collection of stoles belonging to LGBT people of faith and represents more than forty denominations and faith traditions from six countries on three continents. The collection includes stoles from clergy who made their contributions anonymously and continue to serve and others from people who had to leave their ministries. Still others represent clergy who have since died from AIDS.
Most of the stoles include cards telling the deeply moving stories of the stoles' owners who had to leave the ministry because of opposition from their congregations or ecclesiastical hierarchy. Other stoles are simply marked Anonymous.
The Stoles exhibit from the Institute for Welcoming Resources will also be on display before and after the regular Sunday services on October 13th and 20th. Services begin at 9:30 a.m. and last approximately one hour.
