An Evening of One-Act Plays
Audiences can enjoy a taste of crazy-quilt comedy theatre when actors take to the stage next month to perform student-directed, one-act plays exploring topics as diverse as discordant marriages, life and death, and an initial meeting between Adam and Eve in a bar.
THE PLAYS:
"Lives of the Saints": A tender and gently comic meditation. Two women preparing a funeral breakfast in a church basement muse on life, death, and the meaning of Polish jokes-and along the way achieve a kind of sanctity.
"Two Conversations": Provocative and funny short dramatic pieces by a Pulitzer Prize-winning author.
"The Problem": A husband and wife are caught in a complicated and perverse spiral of sexual fantasies that enable them to keep their marriage alive.
"Naomi in the Living Room": Naomi, when visited by John and Johnna, her son and daughter-in-law, is alternately friendly and insulting. Johnna copes her best, but when John changes his clothes to look like Johnna, things start to unravel. Naomi barely notices any differences but throws them both out of the house, then decides she's had a nice time!
"In The Beginning": With a reptilian bartender acting as matchmaker, the future of the human race looks anything but promising when a sophisticated Eve meets the hunky but dim Adam over apple margaritas at the Garden of Eden Bar & Grill
"She's Fabulous": Two actresses of a certain age attend a performance of Death of a Salesman, in which another actress, their great rival, is playing Linda Loman. They let us know how they feel about this.
"Laundry & Bourbon": The discontent and very funny gossip of three small-town wives whose marriages have turned out to be less than was hoped for.
