Event
Chamber Orchestra of Sarasota
Celebrating Americas Music features works by African-American composers Scott Joplin, William Grant Still, and Jessie Montgomery, in celebration of Black History Month. Also included are Arthur Footes Serenade for Strings in E Major, which was premiered at the 1893 Chicago Worlds Fair, and George Gershwins Lullaby round out the program, which spans over 120 years of American music. To capture the sweep of musical history, the one-hour program is arranged in chronological order, beginning with Footes Serenade and ending with Montgomerys Starburst, composed in 2012. The 11-member string orchestra is conducted by Robert Vodnoy.
