Immigraphobia, choreographed by Annielille Gavino Kollman, is a dance work exploring little-known facets of immigration history in the United States of America. Taking into account the current and ongoing debates about immigration reform, Immigraphobia moves beyond racial and ethnic barriers and embraces the diversity that created America. Through dance, parody and physical theater, the production interprets actual immigrant accounts and landmark legislative reforms since the passing of the Naturalization Act of 1790. It is dedicated to the many immigrants, past and present, who paved a way to the 'land of the free and the home of the brave.'
Black Orpheus and the Mountain is a theatrical dance interpretation of the real life of, dancer, Meoleaeke Arebreane Jones, his near-fatal auto accident in 2006, and the out-of-body, spiritual vision he experienced while in a month-long coma as a result of the crash. Jones' 'return' and rehabilitation are also represented in this production fusing Modern, Hip Hop, House and African-Caribbean styles to bare witness to a walking, dancing, human miracle. Conceived by CLAVES UNIDOS Artistic Director, Kevin LaMarr Jones, with choreography by LaWanda Raines and Meoleaeke Arebreane Jones himself, Black Orpheus and the Mountain will illustrate the joys, pains and lessons of living and dying to dance.
