Lost & Found, scenes from after the flood
This is a new play writen by Paul Binnerts as a present for his wife, director Nancy Gabor. They live at the Westbeth artists community in lower Manhattan.

After witnessing the devestating destruction of Hurricane Sandy to the complex and to much of the art stored there, neighbors helped each other, volunteers came to the rescue and building staff became faces with names.

They all banded together during the two weeks without basic services, then when the lights came back, the water was flowing and the heat was functioning, attention turned to the damage. They saw the ruined art work coming up from the basement and the devastation it caused for the effected artists who lost their work, and for some, their identity.  Their silent despair, and their courage to pick up the pieces, inspired him to write this play. LOST & FOUND is dedicated to them.

The people in this play are invented, not portraits of artists who live in Westbeth. It is about a time and a place, like many others, where people try to recover from the shock and devastation heaped upon them by powers beyond their control.  LOST & FOUND is also about the question of why artists create art. It's the same as asking why we breathe.  The answer is simple: because we live.
