Intro to Circling (Intersubjective Meditation)
Have you ever said something along the lines of, "Oh, he/she really gets me." How does it feel? What impact does that quality have on your relationship? What if we could intentionally, yet organically, create more moments of feeling "gotten" or seen?
This is what I've personally experienced in the practice of intersubjective meditation (or "circling" for short). Rather than trying to coach our friends, be their therapist, or get them to see the way we see things (all with the good intention of trying to help), we simply give them our full attention, and allow for whatever happens, moment by moment (just like we would in meditation by ourselves!). In that space, and with our own innate curiosity, we get what it's like being them, as their experience unfolds.
So why practice circling?
Well, when someone has that quality of open, unattached, yet loving curiosity on me, I often feel seen in the "he/she really gets me" kind of way. And that has me feel nourished, fulfilled, and more in appreciation of everything.
Secondly, while circling has no preset agenda, it provides an opportunity to co-discover our blind spots--the aspects of ourselves that we don't even know exist. In other words there may be things running in the background, like hums of a refrigerator, that influence our lives in ways that don't serve us... without us even knowing! However, when we become aware of these "hums", we inherently have more choice around them.

Logistical Details:
In a typical circle, everyone has their attention on one person, which means that person is "being circled". This event will consist of two circles, which means not everyone will actually be circled. There is just as much (if not more) value in participating in a circle, as there is in being circled. Also, I understand that, especially as a first-timer, you may simply want to be a part of the practice, but not have all of the attention on you.
ONCE YOU ORDER YOUR TICKET, YOU'LL RECEIVE AN EMAIL WITH THE LOCATION OF THE EVENT. If you have any questions or issues, please contact me (Dan) at authenticrelatingnyc@gmail.com.
My primary desire in sharing this practice with you all is to build community, so if money is an issue for you, please email me at the address above, and we can work something out.
