Prabha and Friends, An Acoustic Evening Featuring Barry and Shelley Phillips
Prabha Pacey, Barry and Shelley Phillips, together with other musical friends will present an evening of acoustic music. Selections offered will be an eclectic collection of Celtic, Scottish traditional, acoustic rock, spiritual, and world music.
This concert is a benefit for Mount Madonna School and its capital campaign to build a new multipurpose gymnasium. This gym will support the School's performing arts and athletic programs.
Prabha, joined by local Santa Cruz musicians Barry and Shelley Phillips, together with other musical friends will present an evening of acoustic music, including an eclectic collection of Celtic and Scottish traditional, folk and jazz songs. This concert is a benefit for Mount Madonna School and its capital campaign to build a new multipurpose gymnasium. This gym will support the School's performing arts and athletic programs.
A local Santa Cruz musician herself, Prabha has been singing since she was 6 years old. She was a soloist with the Mount Madonna Choir for 12 years and has been giving benefit concerts for Mount Madonna School for 9 years.
"As an alumna ('86), I believe it is important to continue supporting the outstanding education that Mount Madonna School provides," Prabha shares.
Employed by Starbucks, Prabha is a district manager for Licensed stores within Safeway and Target stores in San Jose and Morgan Hill. Earlier in 2013, she traveled to Mumbai, India, to open Starbucks locations there. She currently puts together music for many of the yoga retreats at Mount Madonna Center and sings regularly in the area for different services and events.
Shelley Phillips (harp, recorders, oboe, English horn and whistle) received her Masters of Music from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She plays and tours with the Anjali Quartet and the Coulter-Phillips Ensemble, performs as a duo with her husband, Barry, sings Shape note music, and collaborated with Rumi translator and poet Coleman Barks. In addition to performing and recording in the San Francisco and Monterey bay areas, she is director of the Santa Cruz Community Music School, which offers music lessons in the folk and conservatory traditions.
Barry Phillips (cello, mandolins, harpsichord and psaltry) received his Masters of Music in composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He is a musician, arranger and producer of many recordings of Celtic, world and American folk music on the Gourd Music label. He was a student of Ravi Shankar and assisted in the composition of Shankar's Arpan for the Concert for George (George Harrison celebration), playing cello in the Ravi Shankar Orchestra, and also in the string section that played along with Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr and others. Together with his wife, Shelley, he plays and teaches folk and classical music in Santa Cruz.
