OUR CAUSE
During this time of immense social and environmental upheaval, it is vital that embodiment education be accessible to ALL communities, especially those most impacted by systemic oppression.
For two decades Valerie Chafograck, founder of Dance Sanctuary, has offered conscious dance education and created a vibrant cross-cultural community of movers in the Bay Area. The path forward for Dance Sanctuary™ includes a new focus on Movement Liberation by creating embodied and somatic healing workshops and retreats for people of color. Through mindfulness, somatic and Soul Motion™ dance practices, social and racial justice education, and connection with nature, we offer safe spaces in which BIPOC can regenerate their very roots, and cultivate wellbeing and resiliency within a supportive community.
This project has the power to bring about radical healing and guide the way into a new global and racial paradigm, not just on the dance floor but in every aspect of its operations and partnerships, including fundraising.

BRIGHTSIDE BLUE is a duo from Nevada City that combines heart and soul filled vocals with virtuosic guitar-work and live looping to create brilliantly colored musical portraits. Ananda and Lindsay carry a powerful yet sensitive approach to their songwriting and performances, creating a healing sound current that leaves audiences feeling uplifted and inspired.
Sometimes bluesy and rocking, sometimes soft and ethereal, the sounds never fail to provide us with powerful medicine for the moment.

HEATHER NORMANDALE: From Melodic & rootsy mermaid folk to dreamy psychedelic pop, Heather's emotive vocals, syncopated banjo rhythms and afropop inspired electric guitar are met with a solid and driving rhythm section with upright bass, drums and marimba. Lyrics playfully celebrate the inner compass that seeks models in nature.

The THRIVE CHOIR was born to sing the music for the revolution. They are a diverse group of vocalists, artists, activists, educators, healers, and community organizers based in Oakland, California - directed by Bay Area musicians Austin Willacy & Kyle Lemle. Their heartfelt and soul-stirring original music is a fusion of gospel, soul and folk.
As part of Thrive East Bay - a purpose-driven community focused on personal and social transformation - the Choir's music illuminates the joy, pain, and beauty of what it means to be human in this time of systemic transformation. They lift up the house every first Sunday at Thrive East Bay in downtown Oakland; they have performed with Rising Appalachia, recorded with MaMuse, and shared the stage with social justice luminaries Ericka Huggins, Joanna Macy, and Fania Davis; and they perform at marches, conferences and festivals across California, most recently at Bioneers, Blessed Unrest, IONS, the North America Permaculture Convergence, and the Women's March.
