Event
Fanna-Fi-Allah at the Nevada Theatre
Fanna-Fi-Allah Sufi Qawwali Party aspires to bring the magic of Pakistani qawwali to the West in its traditional form, inherited directly form the grand masters. For more than 12 years, they have performed in much of the Western world as well as in Pakistan and India.
Qawwali is a devotional practice of divine love (ishq) and is expressed through the mystical verses of Sufi poets in Urdu, Farsi, Hindi, and Punjabi. The origins of qawwali music date back about 1,000 years to the first Sufi mystics who came to India.
Traditionally, Qawwali is associated with the "sama," or spiritual gathering of the Chisti Order, whose religious context serves to bring members of the order into trance-like states, making them more aware of their relationship with God. Qawwali has since evolved into an international art form.
Fanna-Fi-Allah Sufi Qawwali Party has performed qawwali in Pakistan at the tombs of Data Ganj Baksh (Lahore), Baba Ganj-e-Shakar (Pak Pattan), Baba Bulleh Shah (Kasoor), Baba Lasuri Shah (Faislabad), and in India at the tombs of Khwaje Nizzam-Ud-Deen Aulia, Hazrat Amir Khusrau, Pir Inayat Khan, and Khwaje Mueen-Ud-Deen Chishty.
They have produced a number of CDs, including Mehfil-E-Sama (Vol. 1 and 2), Annihilation Into the Infinite, and Baba Farid.
